Light Step Counselling (“we”, “us” and or “our”) takes General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) seriously and respects the privacy of its users and customers. This policy describes the type of personal information we collect and how we collect, use and store your information.

Our website is hosted on the Wix.com platform. Your data may be stored through Wix.com’s data storage, databases and the general Wix.com applications. They store your data on secure servers behind a firewall.

  • Relevant basic medical information

  • Counselling Assessment data

  • Counselling notes (anonymous)

How we get the personal information and why we have it

Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:

  • You have requested a counselling service (data deleted if service not required)

  • You are receiving or have received a counselling service from me

We also receive personal information indirectly, from the following sources in the following scenarios:

  • Counselling Directory if you have used this directory to request a service from me

  • National Counselling Society directory if you have used this directory to request a service from me

  • Psychology Today directory if you have used this directory to request a service from me

We use the information that you have given us in the following ways:

  • To arrange to provide you with a counselling service

  • To provide you with an appropriate counselling service

  • To use in professional supervision to optimise your counselling service

  • To refer you to another service with your agreement

  • We may share this information with emergency services or local authority safeguarding services in the case of safeguarding concerns for your safety.

  • We have a legitimate interest. We have checked that legitimate interests is the most appropriate basis.

  • We understand our responsibility to protect the individual’s interests.

How we store your personal information

Your anonymised information is securely stored only on a password protected spreadsheet.

We keep your contact details, counselling assessment and counselling notes for five years in accordance with our professional malpractice insurance policy. We will then dispose your information by deleting it from our spreadsheet, which is set to automatically delete information when it becomes five years old.

Your data protection rights

Under data protection law, you have rights including:

  • Your right of access - You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.

  • Your right to rectification - You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.

  • Your right to erasure - You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.

  • Your right to restriction of processing - You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

  • Your right to object to processing - You have the the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

  • Your right to data portability - You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
